2011 Royal Sovereign Stakes Final Field & Race Betting Tips

February 10th, 2011

The final field for this Saturday’s 2011 Royal Sovereign Stakes has been released with 12 horses engaged to contest the autumn feature at the Royal Randwick Racecourse.

Of the three-year-old colts and geldings accepted for the $175,000 Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m), two runners are installed as the equal favourites at Luxbet with Pressday and Masquerader paying around $4.20.

Our Royal Sovereign Stakes Tip is #3 Masquerader to win from #1 Pressday and #5 Brightexpectations – Get them at the best odds through Luxbet now!

To win the Royal Sovereign Stakes on Saturday we fancy the David Payne-trained Masquerader after the Lucky Owners colt came up trumps with barrier one.

Due to be ridden by Hugh Bowman, Masquerader is first-up for the season after a spring campaign that culminated with his close third place finish in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 9.

To finish second behind Masquerader in the Royal Sovereign Stakes Quinella, Chris Waller’s Domesday colt Pressday is hard to go past even with their horror barrier 12 draw.

Pressday is also resuming for the season, the Group 1 winning three-year-old having taken out the Sandown Guineas last start in November and showing form for the autumn winning a 900m trial at Rosehill on February 1.

The other Royal Sovereign Stakes hopeful that we have selected to finish in the money is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Brightexpectations drawn well in barrier four.

More Than Ready three-year-old Brightexpectations last ran a distant sixth in the Magi Millions 3YO Guineas, but we are tipping an improvement from them on Saturday as they return to their favoured track at Randwick.

Other notable runners facing off in the Royal Sovereign Stakes this year that could prove great value in the exotics through Luxbet include Victoria Derby runner-up Praecido (barrier 10) also from the stables of top Sydney trainer David Payne, consistent Magic Albert colt Ilovethiscity (barrier seven) and Gerald Ryan’s Magic Millions Guineas third placegetter Top Drop (barrier 11).

The 2011 David Jones Royal Sovereign Stakes is due to jump as Randwick Race 7 on Saturday at 4:50pm (AEDST).
