2010 Royal Sovereign Stakes Odds

The Royal Randwick Racecourse will be host to some fantastic racing on Saturday, as it is runs the prestigious Challenge Stakes Day, of which the 2010 Royal Sovereign Stakes is sure to be a feature.

The Group 2 race over 1200 metres is drawing some of the best three-year-old colts and geldings from around the country to compete for the $150,000 on offer.

Coming in as favourite for the 2010 Royal Sovereign Stakes is Manhattan Rain at $2.10. The Gai Waterhouse-trained colt was runner up at the illustrious Group 1 C S Cox Plate (2040m) last October, and has had a couple of strong runs this year as a warm-up for Saturday’s race.

Running from the favoured inside barrier is Demerit who starts at $3.60.  The colt won the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) last September and will certainly be one of the starters to keep an eye on.

The David Payne-trained More Than Great is at $7. Starting from the sixth barrier, the colt is another one to watch from the nine starters.

Rounding out the odds are Gathering and Saint Encosta who are both at $34. The John Thompson-trained Saint Encosta finished as runner up in the UCI Stakes (1800m) at Flemington last October, proving he could upset the odds and provide a substantial sum to the worthy bettor.

Kicking off just before 4.30pm, the 2010 Royal Sovereign Stakes will be the sixth race of the day, while the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m), the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) and the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) will also be run.
